Subject: Magazine publishing
Question Hello,
I have been doing graphics design work for a while now and have built website aswell, but i have always wanted to make a magazine. I read up alot and beeen finding out about the industry andthought i would make a little tester in photoshop see how it turns out. So what i have done is make a document which is 11 inches wide x 8.5 inches height with a resolution of 300 dpi and dived the page into 2 as i was thinking of making it a5 size with opens to a4 size.So first of all just wanted to check that thats the correct size and resolution.
Secondly, i cannot find any places where they have 300 dpi resolution images to use for the magazine and wondered if you knew of a place i could get these from. Also i use brushes sometimes and non of them are big enough as the resolution has increased so wondered if you know what i could do about the brushes.
Furthermore, it would be great if you could give me any must know tips when designing and magazine.
Thanks for your time
Megan Hutchinson
Answer Hello Megan,
You have chosen the correct size and resolution, for the high resolution photo, I understand it is sometimes really hard to find the appropriate photo and more on the size we may need.
I believe you have to buy from stock art images available or but some CDs which has high resolution large size images. Also; you can try flickr.com where sometimes you will large picture, and also on sxc.hu which has limited library but show large size pictures.
Hope this information help you, if my answer is not clear to you, please do not hesitate to ask further
