Adobe Photoshop/move tool

Question
I have a problem with the move tool, it only moves around in the navigation window. I can't get it to move from one window to another, such as in making a collage. I've also tried the ctrl a, ctrl c and ctrl v method but that doesn't work either. Can you help, do you have any ideas?  Thanks
I am running windows xp, photoshop cs3 and have 1gig ram

Answer
Hi Greg,

When you say Navigation window, are you referring to the small navigation palette or the main document window? Im hoping you mean the latter. Here are some suggestions to get you started.

First, make sure you are actually using the move tool and not the direct select tool (for paths). Type "V" on your keyboard to select the proper tool. When this is selected, go to the options bar at the top of the window and make sure "show transform controls" is clicked on.

Next, when you move from one doc to another, you need to make sure your icon changes to include a plus "+" sign next to it. Many people do not drag far enough into another document to get this symbol.

If you are not even able to copy and paste between docs, I would make sure you are on an active layer (using the layers palette) It is possible to have no layer selected in CS3 which can be a big pain in the.... Also confirm that there is something on that layer.

That should solve your issues.

Thanks

Kevin
