Adobe Photoshop/Cropping/resizing

Question
I am having a lot of probs resizing a image and maintaining a good dpi for quality prints. The camera is a Canon EOS 30D. After downloading some of the images I want to print. When I crop to say 5x7 the dpi is almost always 72. When I type in say 300dpi (for quality) then the image size goes way out of the size I want it. For some reason I cannot crop to a standard size and maintain enough dpi for a quality print. I have used many good books and folloed directions but something is wrong. I use standard sizes: 8x10, 5x6 etc. How can I do this? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Will,

When you go into image size, turn on the resample image box at the bottom. What you are doing is changing physical size for res.

Also if you use the crop tool, check the options box at the top of the window, you may have it set to 72 dpi.

Thanks

Kevin
