Subject: eraser tool

Question
I used to be able to take out a spot that did not belong on a print with the eraser tool.  Photoshop 7 on Windows.  It left the color and took out the spot.  Now, it makes a white spot (like a paint brush tool) and I did not change anything!  (knowingly)  I use this tool a lot.  HELP!

Answer
Hi Wendy,

The eraser tool will fill the area with the "Background" color (unless you are working on a layer, then it erases the layer). You can see the background color at the bottom of the Tool Bar, it is the two boxes, the one on top is the foreground color and the one under it is the background.

The eraser tool is not very good for very much, I rarely if ever use it. For retouching a photograph try the Clone Stamp Tool or Healing Brush. The tools with the little triangles have alternates if you hold down on the button, be sure to try them all to see what they do. Also at the top of the work area will be the tool options, play with these as well.

Dan
