Adobe Photoshop/printing from Photoshop

Question
Hi Candice,

I have been printing 300 ppi to sizes of up to 16x24 without a
problem using Photoshop CS and an Epson 7880. Most files have a native size of about 28 Meg, and I use Genuine Fractals to interpolate up resulting in files of about 86 Meg. I must say, however, that I see little difference between the images of same size regardless of my generating larger files with Fractals ( or Photoshop's own utility).

Today I attempted to print a huge 224 Meg file...a 24x36" for the first time. After 75% of the job was done Photoshop stopped responding and printing quit.

My sense is that the driver cannot handle such file sizes, but??

Basically, however, I am still in the dark about what the real value of interpolating up truly is.

Thanks in advance.

Stuart

Answer
you would be correct.

printers, at least in my experience, go nuts after 89 meg. So that fact that you've never banged your head on something before this, I'm impressed.

Flatten everything and close everything. If you stand to lose a small of amount of quality, consider making it a .pdf.

Also, you might want to increase your ram and make sure you have the latest printer drivers. Not sure how much this will help, but if wont' hurt.
