Question
Which Photoshop will give me the slimming effect using layers? Which one should I purchase....as there r so many tutorials, and I have been watching the youtube videos and they won't say what version of Photoshop they used...

If you have never used Photoshop or plan on just doing "hobbyist" type things and not professional level material, I would recommend purchasing PS Elements which runs $79 - $99 instead of Photoshop CS3 which runs a few hundred dollars.
