Adobe Photoshop/300 dpi image size on screen

Question
Why do images appear larger on screen in 300 dpi vs 72? if i make a certain file size eg. 1.75 X 2.75 inches, will it print out that size??

Answer
The dpi is a measure of pixel density or pixels per inch, generally a 300 dpi image will appear smaller onscreen than the same image at 72 dpi at the same viewing size. An image will print out at the size it's canvas is regardless of it's resolution unless it is resized in a page layout application or in the printer settings.
