Adobe Photoshop/PhotoShop and Background Changes

Question
Hi Candice,

I have been using PhotoDeluxe 3 and loved it. Now I can not use it because it is not compatible with my new computer with Vista. I have been trying to find a program which can combine say two birds from one photo with a background different from the original. The birds have to be 'cut-out' first and reduced to fit correctly into the new background.

This was very easy to with PhotoDeluxe. Just open the bird photo, go to 'Smart Wand' which cut out the bird quickly because you did it automatically. Then go to 'Collage' and drag the two photos together and adjust size just by dragging the corners. That was it! Can you help me to do this with PhotoShop 7 or some other program?

Thank you and Regards, Ken.

Answer
Hi Ken,

Same way actually. There is a wand tool in photoshop. My guess is that it's the same way, click it, and then move it over. But I would suggest playing with the lasso tool as well, and the pen tool. With these, you can draw around our image, thus making it more accurate. Then just drag over as normal.

All tools are found in the toolbox on the left side. For the lasso tool, you just select and drag around. for the pen tool, you click to make lines and curves. (alt+click after you make a curve if you can an undesired result - you'll see what I mean when you do it)
