Question
QUESTION: Hi,
I downloaded some vintage patterns to use in photoshop. They automatically
went to download folder. Where should i file them so that i can access them
from photoshop? Thanks

ANSWER: Hi,

Not sure I understand what you are asking. You can open a file from anywhere on your computer. I stick mine on my desktop at first so I can find them quickly. Are you having trouble finding your files that downloaded to your download folder?

QUESTION: sorry i wasn't more clear. . . say I'm trying to fill a simple shape with a pattern. I
go to my "layer styles" >pattern overlay.  But I don't see my vintage patterns
anywhere. Do I need to load them?  if so, can you tell me how to do that?

Answer
ah,

You'll need to make your document as a pattern before you can see it. Photoshop only recognizes patterns that have the pattern extension (.pat)

open your pattern
go to edit, define pattern
name it

Then you can go into layer styles and your pattern should be in your options.

ps - found this website while I was researching for your answer and thought you might like it http://myphotoshopbrushes.com/patterns/id/1038
