Adobe Photoshop/photoshop 7 freezes when trying to save to JPEG
Expert: Glen Demers - 1/22/2009
QuestionQUESTION: I am getting a freeze today - I have used this before and saved photos to jpeg but today - it tels me I have to save it as a copy and then it does not and it just does not let me do anything else after hitting save - it puts me back to original image and image name and locks me out
xp sp2 - tried doing the update to 7.0.1 again - saw someone else posted photoshop 7 locking up
ANSWER: Hi Eileen,
Apparently something in the original image is not allowing you to save it as a jpeg, layers, alpha channel etc. Try saving it with another name, making sure it is RGB and deleting extra channels and flattening the layers.
Hope this helps,

QUESTION: Glen,
Thank you but that is not helpful. I am not a newbie so I tried numerous things to problem solve. I tried different images. I tried different names. I had a .psd and tried to .jpeg Then I tried .jpeg to .jpeg - if I did save as web then I could save to .jpeg
I get a warning about needing to save as a copy and yellow triangle - change name - put the word copy in there or leave the word and still it locks up and if I click anything I get beeps and all the menus are grayed out. Looked at preferences to see if there is anything.
Is there a way to set everything to defaults in case something was set to the wrong thing - I looked at help and did search online which is how I found you.
AnswerHi Eileen,
Sorry, thought I'd try the easy fixes first.
From the symptoms described, you may have a dialog box that has been moved offscreen. After you click on Save you should get another Dialog box with JPEG options. Increase the resolution of your monitor and try to find this dialog box and move it back to the center of your screen
Let me know if this works or if we should try something else.
