Adobe Photoshop - Intel iMac-Epson R800-Adobe PSCS3-AICS3?

Expert: Candice Anderson - 10/14/2009

Question
QUESTION: I am running OS 10.4 Intel iMac (2007) - as much Ram as possible. I use PSCS3 extended and want to buy Adobe Illustrator. Should I buy AI CS3 or 4? (will there be any compatibility issues?) Will installing more Adobe products slow my computer even more? Will installing AI mess with my Epson R800 color management? (Every time I install security updates it seems my printer driver and color management get whacked.)
I really want to get a good vector program, but worry about consequences.
I have no where to turn for these answers. Thanks so much if you can help me

ANSWER: buy the latest program always
no, it won't mess up your other programs
like all programs, when you install a program, it will be slower (especially adobe products).
But if you have have more than 2 gigs of ram you should be fine.
if you usually have to fix your color management, you probably will have to fix it again, but that's a printer issue
yes, get illustrator if you need a vector program.

:)

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply!  I only have 2 G in an Intel iMac running Tiger (10.4.11).
:-(
Do you think I ought to forgo AI for now?  PSCS3 is already really slooow. Guess I should clean tons of image files off the computer!
Some recommend Inkscape. But I cant find on their site where my Intel Mac running 10.4.11 would be okay with that program. Any advice welcome.
I appreciate your kind time and energy.

Answer
hey there,

If you need to make vector program and you have the money, then go ahead and get illustrator. If you've got 2 gigs then you should be fine. If are having problems, it's cause you need to clear your computer.

Now..you can always do a 30 trial before you buy. It'll work just like it would if you bought it, so you'd know what happens on your computer.
