Adobe Photoshop/text in photoshop

Question
QUESTION: Hi Glen,
I have a number of .psd files that are drawings and I wish to enter text. This works well for all files except one. When I use the horizontal type tool and enter a field the whole sheet turns a light red and any text entered is moving as in waving in the wind. Is this file restricted or am I doing something wrong? (PhotoShop CS v8 MAC)
Thanks... Dennis

ANSWER: Hi Dennis,

It sounds like you're in quick-mask mode when you go to enter text. Make sure you are selecting the type tool and not the type mask tool. Make sure you are in standard edit mode.

I have no idea about the waving!

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: I have followed your instructions and the problem is still there. It happens with type tool OR type mask tool selected. The file is a TIF converted to PSD. It is a drawing of the house we are building and have purchased these drawings from JENISH house design. I am trying to insert dimensions to use as a rough guide when purchasing furniture etc. We have 6 drawings and only three of them behave this way. If this is a copyright issue they should all be affected.
Thanks, Dennis

Answer
Hi Dennis,

I would try going to Layers>Flatten Image. Then go to File>Save As.. and save it as a Tif file with a new name. Check "Save as a copy" and uncheck everything else. This should get you to a standard tiff file.
Then go to Image>Mode and make sure you are either Grayscale, RGB or CMYK and also 8 bits/channel.

Also go to File>File Info to find out about any copyright information.

Hope this helps,
