Adobe Photoshop/Printing touched up photographs

Question
Hello Glen,
I'm hoping you will be able to help me with this.   I recently got married, and have purchased all rights to my photos.   For fun, I've been playing around in photoshop.  i save them on a 8X10" canvas, and convert them to jpeg.
I recently uploaded them onto Kodak's website, along with the undoctored photographs, so that I may order some prints.
However, the photos i touched up, won't produce a clear image.   Also the other pictures, don't look good in a 8X10 or larger.
Is there a way to change the resolution without making my image smaller?
Thank you for your time,
Katie

Answer
Hi Katie,

When you open your photos and go to resize them under image size, make sure "resample image" is unchecked. This way when you change the size, the resolution will adjust accordingly and you won't lose any data.

I would not save as jpeg, it is a lossy compression scheme and continued re-saving as a jpeg will result in image degradation.

For best image quality 8x10 and smaller, Kodak recommends a minimum of 125 DPI. With an image open and "resample image" unchecked, entering 125 for the resolution will give you the maximum size for your prints.

Hope this helps,
