Adobe Photoshop - Text format problem

Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 6/2/2009

Question
QUESTION: Hello Kevin,
I am on a Mac OS X, and am running Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
My problem is, whenever I try to enter text, and hit return my cursor jumps
down half the screen so I get something like this...

Hi my name is

Stacey.

I hope you can give me a hand, I don't want to have to start a new text layer
every time I want to start a new line.

Thank You,
Stacey

ANSWER: Hi Stacey,

This sounds like you have a very large leading (line spacing) value input in the character window. Make sure it is set to auto. Also it may be your font if you are using a special font instead of a normal one.

Thanks

Kevin

QUESTION: Thank you for your fast reply.
But neither of these were the problem. I already looked at my leading, and have
tried a number of default fonts.

Answer
Hi Stacey,

I checked my version of Elements 6 to replicate the error and have not found any way to do this without having the leading set to something other than auto or a font that has a huge x-height.

Try deleting your text layers, then choose the type tool. Choose Myriad for the font, 12 pt size. with auto as the leading. Then click and try to type and see what happens. Do not change the settings while you have an active text layer.

Let me know if this doesnt work and I can try to find other sources.

Thanks

Kevin
