Adobe Photoshop - blending photo with background

Expert: Glen Demers - 6/29/2009

Question
Hi,
I am creating a dj flyer and have made my background a linear gradient. I want to add photos of the dj's to the document but don't want the line that frames the image to show - I want it to blend in with the background. Can you please tell me how to do this?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Marla,

There are a couple of ways to accomplish this. Once you have the dj's pictures on their own layer you can use the eraser to feather the edges. Select the eraser tool and make it a brush instead of the block and soften the brush. The bigger and softer the brush the more blending.

Or you can use the marquee tool to frame the pictures in a rectangle or oval. You can either set the feather in the marquee tool before selecting the image or you can feather it after the selection is made. Once you have the selection feathered, invert the selection, under the selection menu, and delete.

I hope one of these methods is what you're looking for,
