Question I am an illustrator and was working on one project where my 17" Sony
monitor was set at a resolution of 1280x1024. Somehow I ended up
changing it to 1280x960, and created several images of digital art work with
the new settings. When I changed back to 1280x1024 settings, the pictures
look distorted- stretched out and much wider.
Now I'm confused as to what setting to use, and moreover, what will happen
to these when I send them to the production team of my client.
In particular, one was art for the cover of a book that I had just right with
the second settings, but now I don't know how it will reproduce.
My pixel ratio is set to "square".
Also if I create the art at one resolution, and the client is using another, how
can I depend on the outcome of the art?
Is there a standard setting I should follow?
I hope you can help me sort this out.
Thank you.
Answer Hi Robin
Monitor resolution should not stretch art if it is used at the proper settings. When you use a res that is not meant for your monitor, it will stretch everything on screen (menus, images, etc.). This goes for you and your client.
I would read up on what a standard or default screen setting is for your monitor. That is the only way to be sure. Once you figure this out, you will have to double check your art.
Also, you should check your measurements when working and be aware of them. If you create a square and it look stretched, thats a red flag.
