Adobe Photoshop - Effects on shapes

Question
Hi, I am creating a brochure and on the far left vertical border, I have a textured/colored decorative shape going up the page. I want this shape to slowly fade as it goes up the page. I've tried various gradient overlays but it just puts a color over it and I lose all the texture and other elements within my shape - I don't want to overlay it, I just want the shape itself to slowly go from full color to transparent - how can I achieve this?

Thanks!

Answer
Hi Ashlee,

Try a simple trick: Use the Erasor Tool and use a large erase to erase your decorative shape. Try playing with the different widths of the eraser. You should achieve this fairly easy. You can always use the undo button if you do not like the transparent effect you want.

Let me know if it works.

Regards,
Dyllian R.
