Adobe Photoshop/Transparent background problems

Question
I have a logo that needs to float over an image, which means it needs a
transparent background. I managed to get rid of the background in
Photoshop 5, but it will only let me save it as a .psd which I can't bring into
my Quark 6 document. When I save a copy of the .psd to a .tiff so it will go
into Quark, it puts the background back in. I've been able to accomplish this
before, but I was messing around at the time and can't remember how I did it.
I'm under the gun and this silly problem is holding me up. Help!

Answer
Hi Shellie,
Photoshop 5 uh, its been over a decade i used that version it a great one. not sure how much i remember the interface.
Anyways, in the save as copy see if u can select the extension "PNG" that should save the image with transparency.
Else at the end of the tools palette, u have this short cut button that takes the image to "image ready". you can click on it... and further save using "PNG" or "Gif 128 dithered" from the presets.

Do let me know if u need further assistance.
