Adobe Photoshop/DPI

Question
Hi Richard!!
I have a customer who swears it should be easy to increase the dpi/resolution of his incredibly low res .jpg file. He does not have any access to the original to resample.

I have severely limited knowledge of Photoshop and have no clue how to tell him why I can't magically make dots per inch appear...and why when he saves his copy of the file at 600 dpi it doesn't change the resolution. Can you explain it to me please?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks so much!
Mimi

Answer
To the best of my knowledge, Photoshop cannot do this. You can try to apply a SMOOTH filter which will blend and blur those pixels together and might give the APPEARANCE of adding resolution, but it's not.

There might be some real expensive interpolating software out there that can add "faux" resolution, but I've never used it.

I have been teaching Photoshop in the classroom and online for almost a decade. I currently teach online at http://www.PhotoshopLearningZone.com

Education/Credentials
I am completely self-taught with Photoshop - which I believe is the best way to learn. A good book, tutorials, and experts (such as those here at AllExperts) to ask question of is the best way to understand a subject. I have been an Expert here at AllExperts in several other catgeories (MS Word, Excel, Windows, etc.) for a long time.
