Adobe Photoshop/changing background of pic
Expert: Glen Demers - 2/2/2011
QuestionQUESTION: changing background of pic. the background is blue, i want to change it to white while the pic is in there. i know how to change color when screen is blank.
ANSWER: Hi Joe,
Select the magic wand tool and click on the blue background. Adjust the tolerance until you have selected the entire blue background. A higher tolerance will select more of the blue color.
Once you have the background selected hit Control/Command delete to fill the area with the background color which is white by default

QUESTION: Glen, You are a prince!!! It worked. Is there anything I can do to keep the edges of the pic less raggedy. I tested on a square clock. tolerance 40.
It surrounded the clock and i got white background i wanted. The straight edges on the original pic were straight. Now they are slightly ruffled/curved in some places,
AnswerHi Joe,
My two favorite tricks for making accurate selections are
1; Once you've made the original selection as accurately as possible, reduce the tolerance and holding the shift key click on areas to add them to the original selection. The Option/Control key will remove areas from the selection.
2; After you've made the original selection hit "Q" to go into quick mask mode. The object will have a red overlay and the background will be clear. You can use the eraser tool to touch up the edges and use a brush tool to fill in areas on your object. Hit "Q" again to return to normal mode.
Hope this helps,
