Adobe Photoshop/Image Background

Question
Hello,

I do not have photoshop, but am using an online free photo editing tool.  But I have used photoshop, so I am hoping that by answering the question for photoshop, I can translate the answer to Splashup.

I want to take a red ball that is surrounded by white background, and get rid of the white background so that the red ball will be the only thing seen when I put it on my website that has a beige background (don't want to see the white).  I am able to slice out the red ball, but when I put the red ball in an empty file, I was unable to make the file transparent.  It kept wanting to have a white background.  How do you create a file with a transparent background, so that the red ball is the only thing that you see in the image?

Thank you

Answer
The solution is simple, you have to save your file as transparent GIF in whichever software you are using.

try saving as best image quality (256 colors) and make it transparent in GIF format.

Hope this will help, if not you can always ask again..
