Adobe Photoshop/Resizing an Image

Question
Hi Kevin,

I've got a JPEG image (256k, 7" x 1") that I reduced by 80% using the Image Size menu. However, the quality has been compromised, even though I checked the box "Resample Image." Can you explain why this happened? Also, is there a way to retain image quality?

Thanks,
Jona

Answer
Hi Jona,

First, you must come to grips that you are reducing an already tiny file 80% which means it is going to be so small that you are going to lose some quality. Secondly, choosing "Resample Image" is not enough, you have to choose one from the pull down - for reduction, you are looking at Bicubic Sharper. But that will only help a little.

Thanks

Kevin
