Question
hello Lizal

how can i create a 3d effect like this image?

http://openoffice.bleublog.ch/files/images/2006/3/mob4_1141991281.png

I want my text lying down like in the above image and also any graphic standing on top of it.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi Sourav,

Photoshop isn't a 3D rendering program, but it does have some shadowing effects that can give a 3D effect to text. You'll have to rasterize your text layer, first, which will make it an object (Layer->Text->Convert to shape is one way of doing this).

Also -- I don't normally have a need to make this kind of effect, so I've found a couple of tutorials from other sources that you can try.

Since I can't see your graphics or text, I'm not sure how to tell you to go about moving them into the position you want -- but if you get your 3D effect and need help manipulating the objects, post back and send me a link and/or your .PSD file.

Let me know if this doesn't work and I'll be happy to try and help you figure out an alternative.

Lisa

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
