Adobe Photoshop/4 colour separation for screen

Question
Hello,
I am trying to do a four colour separation for a screen print- I am an artist. I
am having difficulty separating the layers in photoshop. I am using a
photographic image where the colours are not simply either cyan, yellow, magenta
or black- so the spot colour separation is not working for me. I am using a
epson scanner and a regular mac printer with the intentions of using the layers
to screen artistic prints. How do I separate the image into cyan, yellow,
magenta and black layers?
Thank you
Meggan

Answer
Channels are the best way to achieve what you require.

Take your channels as they are C.M.Y.K, and place only that color information which you needs to be printed out,

The composite image will not reflect of hat you might need, but after separation you will get what you require.

Keep a detailed eye on each and every pixel you have in each channel, and keep only the color/percentage exactly need.

You can however take more channels if required, if you are working with more than 4 colors

Hope this will help, feel free to ask anything further
