Adobe Photoshop/A Very Basic Question

Question
I am a beginner. I scanned six images to a page. I now want to 'separate' these images and view them as seperate pictures, and use them for uploading onto a Home Page. After I select one scanned image on a page and copy/cut it.... what do I do next? I am not able to paste it elsewhere (except on Powerpoint and that is no help!).
I am using Adobe Photoshop ver 8.0
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Neeraj,

This is something I do all the time! Once you've selected and copied or cut your selected image from your scanned group, create a new Photoshop document (from the pulldown menu, File > New...). Then you can use the Paste command (Edit > Paste) to paste the document into its place.

When you select something, then do a copy or cut, Photoshop records the size information. So then when you create a new document, this new document should be the same size as the image you copied or cut.

Try this and see how you do, and if you continue to have problems, just post back.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
