Question
OK, here we go:
I am using Photoshop CS2 and i made a pixelized picture of Monica Belucci ( only the head).I did a gradient black-red and now my problem is this:
I want to see if there are groups of exactly the same color pixels.I want to know how to sample every pixel, but photoshop is limited to just 4 samples. So in simple words what i want to do is, choosing a deep red of some sort, for example, to auto select the same color in every other pixel of the picture. So in the end to know how many are the colors in the picture.
Thanks, hope to recieve an answer.

Answer
Hey Dimo,

You've already mentioned the obvious dilemma here, that Photoshop only lets you take 4 samples. But I wonder if you could try this: Take one of your samples, and make note of the color formula. Then select your Magic Wand tool. Set that tool's Tolerance to a small number (even 1 or 2). Then go to the Select pulldown menu and choose Similar. That's going to choose all the pixels in the picture that are in the same color range as the one you clicked on with the Magic Wand. You could even save that selection (the bottom choice in the Select pulldown menu) if you wanted to keep it to compare to other selections.

Try this and if it doesn't work, post back and we'll try something else. But right offhand, I think this is what I'd do.

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.
