Question
Hi! I took some pictures of the US Capitol last night with the christmas tree infront of the building. The dome of the capitol building is bright white and the christmas tree is bright as well, but the remainder of the photo is really dark. How can I correct this photo? Thanks!

Answer
The levels will do the work,

Select White, Black and gray points from levels (Ctrl+L) (see right side ink pointers)

Once you select them, you will get the original contrast of your image, if you want to bright the image further, make the midtones higher (the center arrow pointing up from the graph, take it to the left side to brighten up the image further)

Also you can use these menus to make your image better. Curves (Ctrl+M), Brightenss (Crtl+B), Hue Saturation (Ctrl+U).
