Question
I have PhotoShop 7 and I am trying to delete a plugin that I have installed in Automate under  the File heading but I am unable to find the file Automate to delete it. Could you please help me? Also could you give me your opinion on a good shapening program or plugin that I can use after resizing a photo? Thanks Ed

Answer
Hi Ed,

In Photoshop, plugins are stored within the Plugins folder, which is within your Photoshop application folder. Take a look at this screenshot:

In Photoshop, there isn't a specific Automate file or folder but if you installed a plugin to assist in an automated function, it would have had to be placed in one of these folders -- within the . What you see in the screenshot are the contents of my Filters folder, located within my Plugins folder. All the other folders contain plugins, textures, filters, etc. that are specific to certain functions of Photoshop.

You don't say if you're using a Mac or a PC -- but either way, try doing a global search of your computer for the file name of the plug-in you installed. That's honestly the first thing I'd do if I were you.

Also, lots of times when you install things, at least on a Mac, when the installation is finished you get an install log. This is a text document that usually shows up on the top level of your hard drive that tells exactly what was placed where. Check your hard drive for that, too.

About purchasing plugins, here are two commercial ones:

and here's a page of links to freebies, although I can't say how good they are:

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
