Adobe Photoshop/How to Install Photoshop elements 2.0

Question
Hello,
I am trying to install photoshop elements 2.0 onto my laptop.  It has a pentium processor and the OS is Windows XP Professional with service pack 2.  When I put in the disc, my computer whirs, the Adobe Welcome screen pops up, it asks me which language I want to use and then it whirs some more.  But then that's it.  How do I get it to install on my computer?  If I go into the D: drive and double click on setup, nothing happens then either.  I do this just after the computer has booted so no other applications are runnign.  Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Jewell,

This might sound lame, but it almost sounds to me like you have a bad installation CD. It sounds like your laptop is trying to read the CD, but can't.

Let me ask you this: Do you have the current CD-ROM drivers for your laptop installed? That would be my other concern, that your machine might not be properly updated in order to accommodate the CD.

I'll also ask this: Where did you get your copy of Elements? I don't mean to be nosy, but I know software can be purchased from places like eBay and amazon.com, and sometimes this software is used. I've heard too that some discount software comes re-packaged, after it's been used as demo versions in the store -- then sold online. So sometimes you can get a bad CD that way, as well as straight from the factory.

When I was teaching, I ran into a couple of incidents where our department bought software straight from Adobe, and had to return a couple of CDs, as they just wouldn't install the software. So it's very possible you got a bad CD.

I would suggest at this point that you take your Elements CD and try installing it on another PC, if that's possible. That will tell the tale if it's a bad CD or not.

If you can try that, let me know what happens. If you're able to do a successful install on another PC, no doubt the CD is OK. So at that point, please post back and we'll try and figure out what the issue might be with your laptop!

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
