Adobe Photoshop/Outline object in photo

Question
I am looking to outline an object in a photo. The photo was taken with a
fluorescence microscope and shows a dark colored heart with several
fluroescent dots on a black background. I can adjust the brightness and
contrast so that the outline of the heart is visbile, but then the fluorescent
dots have far too much contrast. Is there a way to have the software
recognize the difference between the very dark gray color of the heart and
the black background, and put a line (maybe red) at the junction?

Answer
There's a couple of ways
All can be found under image:adjustments

Replace color - with the eyedrop, tap the place you want to alter. Then play with these options given

Selective color - play with these until you get a desired look

use your wand too and select what you want changed then go to saturation and play with those option.

Those are the most basic - Long story short, play with the options in image, adjust.
