Adobe Photoshop/PhotoShop CS2

Question
Hi Liza,
Thanks for being willing to help. I am stuck. I have PhotoShop
CS2 and was given a two color logo by a client. It was created in
some obscure program, I'm not sure which one. Anyhoo, I
opened it in PhotoShop (the resolution was high enough) and
was trying to make it transparent so that I can pull it into Quark
and put a gradation behind it. Somehow, after an hour and a half
of work, I ended up with two separate paths. I would like to
merge the paths into one so as to save the file as an .eps and
have a transparent background. Sorry if I've rambled but I
needed to clarify. PLEASE HELP!

Answer
Hi Tara,

Did you make a clipping path when you had the image in Photoshop? This is kind of what it's sounding like but I'm not real sure I understand. If that's the deal, it's not a big problem to "attach" (for lack of a better term) the clipping path to the photo and export it for use in Quark. But I'm not sure I'm getting what it is you've done.

Do you think you could email me what you've got, along with what you got from the client, and let me see what's going on? I think I could get a better idea of what to tell you if I could see the file(s). If so, email me at lizal@little-works.com and I'll check it out. I'll be kind of tied up tomorrow off and on during the day (Monday), but can surely have time to look at it tomorrow evening.

Hope I can help!

Lisa

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com).
