Does Photoshop have a filter or what would be the way to smooth out the edges on this file?
Thank you, any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Erick,

Technically, I need more information from you in order to give you the "right" answer. But I can make a couple of assumptions and try and help, and if that doesn't work, you can post back.

If your customer's file has the text on separate layers, you can select it with the text tool, and then apply a form of optimizing on it. Select the text, then look in the options bar, below the pulldown menus, and look for the box beside the point size. It's actually a pop-up menu that has Crisp, Strong, Sharp, Smooth and None for selections. Since I can't see the text, I can't tell you what to choose, but try these and see if they help.

Photoshop's filters really won't help you here. And to help you out in the future when you get files that you know will contain text, ask your clients to put the text on layers separate from the image layers. This will help you greatly if you have to edit.

If the client has combined the text and image layers, you're really out of luck, for the most part. This will make this task much more involved and nasty, since you'll have to separate the text from the image. Not a fun job!

But I hope that isn't the case. If it is, I'd actually consider asking the client to provide you with the original image, and let you add the text.

Hope this helps! If not, please post back and give me a detailed idea of what we're up against here -- that is, a good description of your file.

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
