Question -
Recently am having a glitch with layers. When I use the move tool, the highlight jumps to another layer & I end up moving image on this layer. Same problem with text. Reboot, permission repair etc doesen't help. Am using OSX 10.3.7 with a G4 PowerBook. With OS9, I would have trashed preferences but am concerned to do it with v10. Any thoughts?
Thanks much

Hi Lisa,
Using move tool + command-clicking on part of the image does not move cursor to that layer (as you thought), but clicking on layer name does slect the layer. Good news is that using the command key with the move tool seems to solve the layer "jump" problem. Hopefully this will continue to work. If not, I'll have to try trashing prefs or re-install. Maybe I should just upgrade to CS. Again, many thanks for your expert/thoughtful answer, complete with illustrations!

Answer
Hi Larry,

You're more than welcome, and I'm glad I could help! Also glad that you have a fix, at least for a while. It kinda bothers me that the command+click on the layer name doesn't select the parts of the layer in the image, which leads me this is all that dreaded software glitch we spoke of -- but, if I were you, I'd just continue on the way you're doing, using the command key with the move tool. If that works, keep going.

And your backup plan sounds good too -- proceed with the prefs trash and/or reinstall if your "fix" stops working.

I used version 7x for ages and really loved it. Even when my peers had upgraded to CS, I didn't really see a need to -- but since I made that jump, I can recommend it very highly. So if you decide to make the upgrade, I don't think you'd be making a mistake!

Holler if you need any more help,

Lisa
