Question
how do i take a colored picture and make it a black&white picture with only one thing in color?

Answer
1. select the layer you want blk/white
2. press apple, shift, U - or desaturate
3. take a selection tool and select what you want to be colored
4. copy  and paste that selection, thus making a new layer with just that piece.
5. many ways of coloring, play with the adjustment options. Easiest way is to press shift, U (for color/saturation), press colorize and have a good time with it.
