liza, i forgot earlier to ask you about a place to go for good
clipart. i do my class newsletter and want some good stuff
but for free. I like to keep to themes like history, space, ect. I
would alsolike to be able to take this clip art and change it in
Photoshop and Illustrator. Thanks again, shonda

Answer
Hi again Shonda,

There are a lot of good sources for clip art, but be careful because there are also a lot of BAD sources!

You didn't mention if you want downloadable art, or art on a CD, etc. -- so I'll try and give you both.

1. Dover is an established company that has been publishing clip art for years. They have books of clip art you can find in most book stores (Borders, Barnes & Noble, also amazon.com) -- and I recently learned you can subscribe to their newsletter, the Dover Design Sampler, and sometimes this newsletter has free clip art. And you can buy this art on CD, too.

2. I think this art is free -- unfortunately, this is kind of a confusing site, but once you get through some of the "stuff," you can find downloads. And the art doesn't look too bad, plus it's supposed to be royalty-free:

3. Barry's Clip Art server has been around a while; it might share some of the same art as the link I just mentioned. But it's a good place to start:

4. This site isn't free, but if you knew ahead of time what you wanted, you could subscribe for a short time, do all the downloads you want, and then unsubscribe!

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
