Adobe Photoshop/cutting out images

Question
I have to cut images out and make the background disappear I've had a crash course i photoshop and really have no idea i have been given sum steps to do but fear that i have missed something as i have tried countless amounts of times and have go nowhere please tell me your steps of how to do it thanks

Hi Nicole,
Lets assume your picture is a person standing in front of a wall. You want to remove the wall right.
Since you've learnt photoshop this shouldn't be very difficult.
You have to select the person and cut him as a new layer attain this.
There are many ways to do this in photoshop, however my advice is use magic wand (shortcut- w) and select the areas with sold fills, then additionally use the lasso tool (preferably polygon lasso tool; shortcut - l) and keep clicking around the person to select him. Once you have selected the entire figure press ctrl+j to get the selected picture in the new layer. after that you can delete the background layer (wall).
