Adobe Photoshop/grainy photos

QuestionHuma, This is not really a Photoshop question, but there was no category for Adobe PhotoDeluxe and you seem to be knowledgable in many aspects of desktop publishing. I hope you can offer some advice...
I had Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition 3.0 on my Windows 98 computer and had no problems with it. I got a new computer with Windows XP and there are some compatibility problems. I've tried downloading the EPS Parser plug in and it didn't change anything, but that seems to be related to the ability to use their templates. That is not the problem I'm encountering, I don't use their templates.
My pictures don't seem to be of the same quality when printed as they were before. I have the same printer and the same scanner as before. The only other possible explanation is a remanufactured ink cartridge. I really didn't think that was the problem as the photos seem grainier, not off color. What could be causing this? I've still got the Windows 98 computer. I may try hooking everything back up to it and scan and print the same picture and see if I get the same results. Any other suggestions as to why my photos are not of the same quality?
Thanks for your help.
AnswerDear Patti,
I guess this is not the problem with printer; to confirm this, try to print some text or other material to see if it also comes grainy.
If yes, I think this is the problem with your file format, try to change your file format from JPG/GIF to tiff or something else.
You can also try by changing your printing software. Hope it will work, feel free to ask anything further
