Question
Hi
I wanted to find out how I can create an image using Photoshop techniques similar to these images on this link given below.
http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm
(The anamorphic illusions)
Also is there some way where you can create an image but show it through a camera view/angle? Sort of using an image of a camera and showing its perspective of an object?
I'm trying to create an image of a camera or use an image of a camera and using Photoshop techniques do something with it. Either to the image of a camera or to an object that the camera is showing. (That's why the link was given above)
Something different, unusual. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Sam

Answer
Hi Sam,

I understand anamorphic art, but I'm not sure if I understand exactly what you're trying to do.

Can you post back and be a bit more specific? I think I was thrown when you mentioned using a camera or an image of a camera, and using Photoshop to "do something" with it. I'm not sure I know what you mean.

Photoshop is loaded with techniques that will help you create things that are different and unusual, but if you have a specific project in mind, or even thumbnail sketches you can email me, I'll get a better idea of what you're working on and how I can be of specific help.

I'm imagining it could involve using perspective in Photoshop, and also reflective techniques. But maybe if we can first get an idea of a specific project in mind, and what you want to treat as an anamorphic study, we can figure out how to do it.

Some of the most powerful tools in Photoshop for distorting images are the Filters. Under the Filters submenu, check out the Radial blur. Also under the Filter submenu, check out Distort>Spherize. These can do some believable manipulations.

Meanwhile, check out these links. It might help you to first experiment with and research with true anamorphic art, before you apply it to the computer.

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
