Adobe Photoshop/masks

Question
My photoshop came with several folders, FRAMES, MASKS, BORDERS, etc. There are a couple of masks that were obviously made  with a black drybrush on a white background. They are basically rectangular in shape with scratchy irregular drybrush edges. These are meant for you to INSERT a photo into it and have the bits and edges of the photo showing in the irregular edges.
There were no instructions in the program. I can't find any help in any of the Adobe or WOW books.

I can not make this happen.
Can you help?

Answer
Hi Dan,

I need some more information -- namely, what version of Photoshop are you using, and for what platform? I don't have these folders with my version, which is CS, and it sounds like you're describing plug-ins, actually.

Can you also post back and tell me the path to these folders on your hard drive? For example, my plug-ins are located in my [hard drive] > [applications folder] > [Adobe Photoshop CS folder] > [plug-ins folder]. It almost sounds like you've got an educational version of Photoshop, or perhaps Elements? This doesn't look like anything standard that comes with CS -- although I haven't upgraded to CS2, so I can't speak for that version. But as far as I know, according to the Adobe site, CS2 doesn't include these folders, either.

BTW, I am no longer answering questions for this board -- I asked to be released from this forum today. But I'll try and help you find an answer to this before AllExperts reads my email and makes my request to stop official.

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
