Explain in brief the role of photoshop in experimental photography
Answer -
What exactly are you referring to by "experimental photography?" I really don't know what you're asking here but if you'd like to clarify, I'll be happy to help.

If you have a certain problem or issue concerning Photoshop, please post back with it, with as many details as you can provide, so I'll have more to go on. But as it stands, I really don't know what you're asking.

Thanks!

Answer
I'm not so sure I'd say Photoshop has a "role" in experimental photography, unless you're comparing it to other, similar software packages. But Photoshop isn't unique in the fact that it does contain filters that will allow for the effects you describe, such as polarization, posterizing, etc.

There are many other software packages on the market that allow you to perform similar actions such as those in Photoshop. You'd have to research the market and possibly visit the Web sites of those companies in order to make a fair comparison as to how Photoshop "rates," in this category.

If this question is part of a school assignment, that's what I'd suggest you do: Take three or four other photo editing software packages, visit their companies' Web sites, possibly download trial versions and test them out, and then see how they compare to Photoshop.

If this isn't a question related to school, and it's something you're interested in, I'd download a trial version of Photoshop -- if you don't own it already -- and experiment with the filters and a sample image. Then you'll have more of a first-hand knowledge of how Photoshop stacks up, when it comes to "experimental photography."

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
