QuestionlizaL,
does adobe have a upgrade to the photoshop 7?
or is the only other option is to buy the
full version photoshop cs.
i have 7, but want to get cs, but may not
be able to, if the only option is to get the
full version.
also, are you self-taught on photoshop - or
did you take courses with a teacher?
have been learning photoshop on side, but
want to pursue it as a career, if i get good.
thank you,

AnswerHi Vince!
If you have Photoshop 7 already, you qualify for an upgrade to the CS version (which is really 8). You can go to anywhere like MacMall or Club Mac and buy an upgrade for just Photoshop for less than $200 -- in fact, most places are selling it for around $169.
Here's MacMall's listing -- it's going for $169 there:

Club Mac's is $169, too:

You might go to Dealtime.com or one of the other price comparison search engines to search and get it for a little cheaper, but probably not by much.
So to answer your question and hopefully ease your mind a little, you don't have to buy the full version, and you especially don't have to buy the whole CS Suite! In my opinion, that suite is too rich for my blood, LOL!
I am self-taught in Photoshop. I started using it when version 2.0 came out. The college I was teaching for decided to start offering it as part of the commercial art curriculum (I was a commercial art and design teacher there). It was like everything else I've learned and taught (Quark, Freehand, Pagemaker, etc) -- I used it so much and so often it grew on me and I learned an awful lot.
I don't think anyone exists who knows everything about Photoshop, because it's such a detailed and deep program. But I think you can learn it and learn it well, and get into things like photo restoration and retouching (just to name two things!) and do well, as a career.
Good luck to you! Keep me posted as to how you get along with Photoshop.
