Hello Candice!
I was actually wondering how you know to create a certain effect
in photoshop, not sure if this is the sort of stuff you advise on.
It is something I have seen on the online digital Fat Face
catalogue, which can be viewed on their website.
There are photos of palm trees, tigers and elephants but they
have bright gradients applied to them.
I dont really know how to explain it much more that that! Is
there any way I could send an attachment of it to you?
Sorry if I am asking for quite alot, I suppose it would be more of
a tutorial than a reply to a question!
Or please could you advise me on what would be good to refer
to to get the same effect?
Any help would be appreciated as I think it would look very good
if I could do it!
Many thanks
Victoria

Hey there!
I googled Fat Face and saw no palm trees, so I'm taking a wild guess as to what you're trying to do here. Feel free to send me a link to look at.
Whenever you want to have pictures with a nice gradient, with a 3d look to them, bascially all you have do it is select what you want the gradient to be on, then use your gradient tool. To add a 3d effect, double click on your layer and play with those options.
A great place to play and learn basics is www.photoshopcafe.com. They have great lessons that sound like what you want to do.

Thanks for the advice!
The link to the website is
http://www.fatface.com/page/catalogue/image
If you have time to look at this that would be great!
In the meantime I'll have a look at that website and see if that will help.
Many thanks for giving up your time.
Answeroh there it is,
Ok, here's what you do.
palm tree
1. copy your layer, turn one of the layers off (this is your backup one)
2. ctrl click (or apple click) your layer, the picture not the name. This should make an outline around your picture
3. delete
4. Put a gradient on it.
done ;)
for the elephant, a little more tricky
1. copy layer....do 1
2. make a new layer, put that on top of the elephant that you will be working with
3. go back to the elephant layer and ctrl click, the picture
4. go back to your blank layer and make a gradient. You should now have a gradient silohuette of your elephant
5. on the layers box there should be a box that says normal, click the down arrow. Choose Color
6. Done
7. You might want to play with the curves, or make the picture it self black and white to more show contrast of the elephant :)
