Why we use plugins in the adobe photoshop and what they do in adobe photoshop or in other graphics softwares?

Plug-in is basically the add-on elements that enhance the capability of the software, and add a specific feature or service to a larger system.
In Photoshop, for example, plug-in is widely used to add a filter for some special effect. You can also add the third-party plug-in in Photoshop to add-up the software a value.
