Adobe Photoshop/removing background from a photo

Question
Hi there
I'm helping a friend to build a website for her upholstery business.  I've scanned in some photos but need to remove the backgrounds and leave just the chairs.  Any ideas how to do this.  I've got basic Adope photoshop and the usual microsoft and HP photo software but no paint pro or anything.  Will I need to buy a new package?

Many thanks
Bev

Answer
Its easy,

If the background is plain, select

Magic wand tool (W) and click on the

area you want to remove. Invert the

selection (Ctrl+Alt+I) and

delete the entire area.

If you are not happy with the result,

make a small selection with any tool

(i.e. lasso) and go to SELECT >

SIMILAR. It will make a selection of

your similar color. you can delete the

area after inverting the selection.

to more refine the selection you can

always make path (P) select the path

and make a path around you chair or

object, Ctrl+ENTER and you will

get the selection of your path (don’t

forget to complete path before) and

delete the outside area you want to

omit.

Hope this will help, feel free to ask

anything further
