Adobe Photoshop/removing white backgrounds from images and text

Question
What I would like to do is to remove the white box around images and then copy and paste into printshop for cards, etc., but I can't get rid of that awful white box.  I would like to do this with text created in photoshop also.

I have tried the extract tool, clipping path, erasing, saved as a .psd.  Nothing works.

Thank you.

Answer
1. Go buy Indesign - or get a free copy online for a month :)

2. Printshop and Photoshop aren't meant to work together. What you need to find on Printshop is the clipping path option. In Indesign, when you click this, it will locate the clipping path you created, and you're done. So, find the clipping path option, if there is one.

3. save as a .pdf. - hopefully Printshop takes pdfs?

4. the last resort is to save your file as a .png. This will let you save with a transparency in the back. go to file, save for web, and choose png-24. The catch is that you are saving for web and your dpi will be very low.
