Adobe Photoshop/resizing windows in photoshop

Question
Hi LizaL,

I am currently using Photoshop CS ver 8.0. And I am having a hard time trying to resize the image window in photoshop. One day when I hit the CTRL + the Plus sign it does it then the next time it doesn't. I just want to able to toggle between different size windows while editing and what not. When it doesn't work the actual image inside the window resizes, but not the window itself. I read that you can hit the CTRL + ALT then Plus sign, but this does not work for me. I have gone to EDIT/PREFERENCES/GENERAL and ticked the "zoom resizes windows" button. But it still doesn't work. Any suggestions ?

Answer
Hi Rob,

You're doing everything exactly right -- and given this, I'd say something in your program itself isn't right. If I were you I'd uninstall Photoshop, then reinstall and see if this happens.

You're using the right commands, and what you're expecting to happen is right: Control and + should enlarge the contents of the window (while Control and - will reduce the contents); Control and Alt and + will should actually zoom the window itself, and Control and Alt and - will zoom the window out.

So everything you're describing is correct -- if it's not working on your machine, I'd do the uninstall and then the reinstall and see what happens. If that doesn't work, please post back and we'll investigate further.

P.S. Ticking the "zoom resizes windows" button enables your zoom button, at the top of your window, to zoom your window (not its contents) in and out. So if you keep this ticked, it will ensure that you'll be able to use that button for zooming, as well. But if that doesn't change anything, I'd say there's definitely something wrong with the way the program is installed. Try the uninstall/reinstall and let me know what happens.
