Adobe Photoshop/software installation
Expert: LizaL - 10/14/2004
Question-Sory it took so long to get back with you. The ram size shows 128 and my computer says it has 38% free space which doesn't seem like very much. Windows millinium came on my comp when I bought it new in 2000. It is an HP pavilion mx 70 and I have no extra programs downloaded on it at this time only the newest release of NORTON w/spam block. I am beginning to think it is the CD rom that I bought what do you think?

Question -
I recently purchased, on ebay, an unregistered, new Adobe Photodeluxe 4.0 CD. There was no box or manual with it, just the CD itself. I did however print out instructions on installation fom somewhere on line. I am using Windows Millinium and Internet explorer and there is more than enough room for this progam on my computer so free space is not an issue. My problem is that when the CD is first put in there is supposed to be an instant an Autoplay Interface that appears and guides me through installation process but nothing happens. So I tried going into my control panel to the add/remove programs but when I try to install from there it keeps prompting me to put the disk/CD in and it already is. What am I doing wrong or could this not be the right appl. for my computer
Thanks, Debbie Houston

Hi Debbie,
Wow, this is no good, huh. You must feel really frustrated; hope I can help.
Right off the bat I can think of a couple questions I need to ask you --
1. Do you have the latest version of Windows Me?
2. How much RAM do you have on your PC?
Until you get back to me with that info, here's a link to the support area for PhotoDeluxe, on the Adobe Web site:
http://www.adobe.com/support/products/photodeluxe.html
Now the bad news is, not everyone on eBay is honest, and not everyone on eBay will guarantee and stand behind what they sell, especially when it comes to software. I've heard of people selling program CDs that are corrupt, and although I really hope this isn't the case, this could have happened.
But for right now, let's hope for the best. Search Adobe's knowledgebase, and try and get back to me with as much info on your PC as you can, and maybe we can get to the bottom of this!

AnswerHi again Debbie,
The specs on your computer sound fine, and adequate to run PhotoDeluxe, for sure. No, 38% doesn't seem like a whole lot of free space; maybe you have other processes running? And hopefully you're running the latest version of Windows for your computer. But even if you aren't, the auto-install should still function.
At any rate, the information you've given me makes me think it's the CD you bought. If I were you, I'd contact the seller and tell them what's happened, and see if they'll either refund your money or give you another CD.
If not, and if this seller is a registered seller with eBay, just about the only thing you can do is give them a bad rating and negative comments. Unfortunately, lots of people who sell through eBay aren't always honest, or provide the buyer with solid equipment. And if they won't budge when it comes to refunds or replacements, I think your best recourse is to complain so that other people don't fall victim to this in the future.
Let me know what happens! And I'm really sorry about this. Bad sellers give eBay a bad name.
Hope this helps and good luck,
Lisa
