Question
I am a yearbook student at Potter Valley High School.

When I start photoshop 7.0, it goes through the appropriate plug-in loading, but when it's time to get to work it quits and I end up at the desk-top.

I just need it to start. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Pavel,

Sounds like a really bothersome problem, but one that could be fixed. However, I really do need some more information in order to give you a definitive answer.

If you can, please post back and tell me the following:

1. what platform you're running on (i.e. Mac or PC)

2. any error message or dialog box you might get when the program quits

3. the type of computer you have Photoshop installed on, and the version of the operating system you're running

In the meantime, I'll hazard a couple of guesses:

1. a software conflict -- Have you installed any other software on this machine lately? If so, you might try uninstalling it, then restarting Photoshop and seeing if it runs. Do any other programs behave erratically, or don't function since the Photoshop install?

2. an incorrect installation -- Did Photoshop install correctly? Were there any problems?

3. a bad installation CD -- This does happen from time to time. Do you have another machine you can install Photoshop on, to test this out?

Generally speaking, when something like this happens to me, I always completely uninstall the program and reinstall it. I'd advise you to do that, too. If you need help doing this, please let me know which platform you're on, and I can walk you through it.

Also in the meantime, you can check out this link at the Adobe site for troubleshooting Photoshop 7. It pertains to the Mac version, though.

Hope this helps, but please post back with the additional info if it doesn't. Please be as detailed as possible.

Thanks!

Lisa

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
