Question
Hi Lizal,

I am using photoshop 7.0, windows xp to create my web site, everything is going good, however the text is a little blurry and looks bad on web browser - how do i get the text to appear more legible?

Answer
Hi Stephanie,

Sounds like you just need to do some anti-aliasing, and this is easy. Basically, the term "anti-aliasing" just means cleaning up your text (or in the case of vector graphics, making lines appear cleaner). When I say "clean up," I mean that anti-aliasing can make your text look a whole lot smoother and/or sharper for the Web.

Once you've created your text, select it with the text tool, then go up to the Text anti-aliasing options. You'll find those right under the pulldown menus, at the top of your screen. These options consist of a little pop-up menu with several selections.

The selections you have available under this menu are None, Strong, Crisp, Smooth and Sharp. Try experimenting with these to get the look you want.

Here's what the Text tool options look like; you can see their location too:

Also make sure that when you optimize text for a Web site, you save it as a GIF.

Hope these things help! Please post back if they don't, and we'll work on another solution.

Expertise

I've used Photoshop since the release of version 2. I taught college commercial art and graphic design for 10 years, and within that realm, taught Photoshop at every level, and with each successive product upgrade. My experience with Photoshop is thus extensive and well-rounded, from photo retouching to color adjustment to incorporating Photoshop and ImageReady into Web design. I am primarily a Mac user (since 1985), but am also PC-savvy.

Experience

I've been a graphic designer for 22 years, was a national magazine art director, a designer for the Department of Defense, a college art instructor, and have my own freelance Web and graphic design business, LittleWorks (www.little-works.com). I've also worked for several printing companies, in both prepress and art.

Awards and Honors
PICA award (Printing Industry of the Carolinas Award for the design of a media kit that accompanied a magazine I was art directing at the time)
