Subject: can a 19 yr undocumented immigrant be adopted??

Question
hello terrie,
my name is jodie and I'm an undocumented immigrant living in New York state! my birth mom made my guardian that i live with now, my legal guardian(my father was never been in my life, never met him). so i have been living with her for the past 8 years in America. i came over legally, but my guardian failed to reapply for f-1 form! i have  ( my visa done in 2010) Because of various reasons she is unable to adopt me!! so is it possible for a close family friend to instead adopt me, even though I'm illegally here? but if i went back to Jamaica i would have family to stay or any place to stay!! so it's quite a dilemma!!

Answer
Jodie,  first of all you would have to go thru this legally and your immigrant status could make that a problem. You would need to talk to a laywer or have the person whom would adopt you do so. I am not a laywer so I have no idea how this would work or if it is legally possible. I wish you well.
Take care
Terrie
